About me
Leslie Richards is the Director of Secondary Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support for Jefferson County Schools in Birmingham, Alabama. Leslie has been in education since 2000, after a career in broadcast journalism. She was first an elementary teacher, but felt called to secondary to help students learn to love mathematics like she does. Leslie has coached teachers of mathematics in grades K-12. She was in the NOYCE Master Mathematics Teacher program at UAB and trained teachers in the principles of the Math Design Collaborative for the SREB/Gates Foundation work. She was honored to help lead the rewriting of the State of Alabama Course of Study for Mathematics to align with NCTM recommendations. Leslie holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and her passion is recruiting, developing, and retaining teachers for her district.
