This session equips math teachers to support English Learners (ELs) to access the language and discussion in the mathematics classroom. Focused on making language comprehensible in mathematics classrooms from middle school to high school, this session aims to help educators analyze instructional language and apply effective design techniques to engage ELs. Participants will examine teacher talk and instructional language in real-world teaching videos from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards video archives. Plus, we will discuss practical tips for enhancing the accessibility of both language and content so you can implement these strategies and begin better supporting ELs and other students immediately in your own classroom.
