Composite Shapes Don't Have to be Complicated (6-8)

In this session, we will explore hands-on activities to assist students in decomposing composite polygons. We will use manipulatives to decompose shapes, calculate area of each shape, and then add to find composite area. We will discover how to help students make the move from concrete to pictorial to abstract, all while laying the foundation to prepare students for surface area.
