In this presentation, Ronnie D. Hall provides insight into his unique experience of entering the teaching profession later in life while overcoming a fixed mindset about mathematics. Through his personal journey, Ronnie aims to provide math educators strategies that can be employed to promote a growth mindset for their own development as well as the development of their students.
The session begins by exploring the fixed mindset and the effects it has on teachers and students in math education. The focus will then shift to practical strategies for fostering a growth mindset in the classroom. Implications for fixed and growth mindset will be discussed, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of how beliefs about math can either limit opportunities for growth or foster academic success.
