Every year, the National Society of Professional Land Surveyors (NSPS) sponsors a trigonometry competition for high school students. In this competition a professional land surveyor will give a presentation about land surveying and how surveying uses trigonometry and geometry in real world practical application, and then return to administer a 60 minute exam. This exam is offered in every state across the nation. The winner from each state will compete in the national competition. Cash prizes are awarded to the top 3 national winners and the top 2 state winners. The teachers are also awarded cash awards. This presentation is a sample of what the surveyor will present to your students and an overview of the competition.
